The Students and Staff Deserve Stability

A few weeks ago, I blogged about how the district required a regular Superintendent to function. I wish that were the only area where that was the case. The reality is there are also school sites that require stability. Without stability, the students don’t stand a chance.

We now have two schools in this district that have no regular Principal. We are very fortunate to have people who stand up and try to fill the gap the best they can. Like a Superintendent, we can’t expect a temporary person to change the landscape. They have no security, and in some cases, they perhaps want a full-time job as an Administrator.

Like every other task, the Mineral County School Board has failed to resolve this issue. They bat their eyes and claim nothing is something. I am here to say nothing is precisely nothing. Teachers and students require stability. You can’t expect a student or a teacher to live up to a standard when there is a huge question mark on if the standard will change in a few months.

The way you change the dismal performance is to have regular contracted Administrators. Lacking such, even a full Superintendent will never be able to execute a plan. Executing a project requires people in place for a period long enough to see results, not on a day-to-day basis. Mineral County should do better. One of the school board members babbled recently about the state threatening to appoint board members, and this is why. Absent an actual board, nobody stands a chance.
