The Public Should Be Entitled to a Fair and Independent Audit

Has anyone noticed that Sciarani and Co. is the auditor each year? Initially, one would be inclined to believe they are the only ones that bid. The reality is there haven’t been bids in years. The bidding stopped upon the entrance of Diane Rodriguez. Auditors are supposed to change for an important reason.

Auditors are generally supposed to change every three (3) years to ensure that there isn’t any type of bond of preference being built with an auditor that may sway their opinion of the state of things. I have documentation that the auditor currently in use has had numerous lunches with Diane Rodriguez, even having lunch at her home on numerous occasions.

I have also experienced this auditing company downplay the severity of discrepancies or overstate a discrepancy to please Diane Rodriguez. A perfect example of this is Diane Rodriguez brought up the fact they are under federal investigation, then turned around and claimed that it had all been resolved within a few weeks. It was not resolved, nor has it been resolved to my knowledge.

I had questioned the sole sourcing of the auditing to Diane Rodriguez and was told he was good and always “took care of the District.” I am still not sure what exactly she meant by that. I must admit that perhaps I should’ve been more assertive in changing this intentionally unscrupulous pattern of behavior. Auditors are supposed to be respected, not best friends. The state of the District really shows why that is the case.

This practice has gone on for so long that I am not even sure how it would be resolved at this point. A rubber stamp and yes, ma’am spells imminent disaster for students and staff. I will discuss the discovery I made about a payment to a payment to a vendor for over $50,000 made by Diane Rodriguez when the company didn’t exist when the check was written in another post. If I know of this one discrepancy, how many was I unable to uncover?
