Not a Paid Post
I was skeptical when I set out looking for a floor cleaner. I have solid surfaces in my entire house. I have a number of vacuums and mops. None of them seemed to ever fit the bill; either the vacuum didn’t get all the sand off the floor, or the mop left streaks that I was forever chasing around. It was almost a full-time gig just keeping the floors cleaned, and I had enough. I wanted to reclaim some of my time and enjoy more freedom without the constant burden of floor maintenance.
After searching around, I found the Bissell Crosswave at Costco. This cleaner was different from many others I had encountered during my extensive search. It had a terrycloth roller instead of bristles, which piqued my interest. It also advertised itself as a machine that vacuums and mops at the same time, which sounded too good to be true. However, I decided to give it a shot, thinking that with Costco’s generous return policy, I had little to lose if it didn’t live up to the hype.
To my surprise, I discovered that it worked exactly as advertised. Not only did it effectively clean my floors, but it also picked up dirt along the baseboards, something I always found difficult no matter what tool I used. I no longer had to juggle multiple tools just to clean my floors effectively. The cleaner that came with it had a pleasant, light orange scent that wasn’t overpowering, which made the whole cleaning experience much more enjoyable. I felt motivated to put the machine to the test across all the solid surfaces I had in my home: hardwood, tile, and vinyl planks.
The only downside I noticed was that it wasn’t exceptional at getting dirt that was caked on; that required some pre-cleaning. However, that was fine by me because even the traditional mop requires a bit of extra work for tough grime. I was able to clean my entire house on a single battery charge, which had been a concern of mine before purchasing. Some reviews had mentioned that the charge didn’t last, but my experience has been quite positive. It does drain noticeably faster when using turbo mode, which I wouldn’t recommend for general cleaning, as it tends to put a lot of fluid on the ground compared to the standard mode—better suited for occasional dirty spots.
In the initial stages of using this vacuum-mop hybrid, it took a bit of adjustment when learning how to place it back on the dock. The docking station is essentially a tray with a connector for the appliance; it goes in pretty easily once you get the hang of it, but I admit it felt a little intimidating at first. Moreover, the device is not completely maintenance-free. There’s a time commitment involved to clean the roller and place it in the designated slot next to the vacuum on the dock. I assume neglecting this duty could lead to an unpleasant mildew smell over time, which is something I certainly want to avoid.
For a purchase that I was initially skeptical about, I am very glad that I decided to take the gamble. Treating myself to an all-in-one cleaning system has undoubtedly saved me precious time that I can now dedicate to more enjoyable activities or simply relaxing. It also provides me the opportunity to ensure that my floors remain fully clean before they get dirty again—something I greatly appreciate in my busy lifestyle. Although I acknowledge that it isn’t a completely seamless solution—it doesn’t meet the demands of a thorough two-pass cleaning system for high foot traffic areas—it certainly has exceeded my expectations in everyday use.
